Looking For a Few Good… Developers?

If you have had a chance to check out the forums section on this site, you may have noticed that I have begun to play around with the idea of making a plugin for backing up Aperture to DVD using Toast.

Well, so far, I have realized one thing. I don’t know much about XCode. In fact, I am by no means a developer. I mean, I used to do a great deal of programming at my old job, but it was very “off-the-cuff.” Really, I am a photographer, and really, more of an idea man when it comes to developing software (or anything else for that matter). But, I love to tinker, and I love to try new things.

So, I was thinking, what if we all work together on this. We could make it a community effort, and blog the results (naturally). I have a feeling there are people out there reading this site who have way more experience writing code than I do, and I am sure there are a few who have some great ideas.

I have already made a few notes about the project in the forums. So, if you are interested in collaborating with me (and don’t worry, I will give everyone who helps proper credit) drop me an email through the contact form, or reply to the forum, or comment on this post–just get in touch.

If I find enough people interested (maybe two or three) we will make it an Aperture Plugged In sanctioned event!

hey, I’m in the same boat. Just wonderin’ do you know much C/C++/Ojc-C?

I’m very unfimiliar w/ XCode & interface builder, too. Though I know that if you build you interface first Inter.Builder can save time.

I have a little bit of C++ experience (on Windows and UNIX) from my previous job as an Imaging Specialist at the UofR’s Laser Labs. So, I am pretty unfamiliar with XCode, but I am learning it pretty quickly. It is just another IDE, doing its best to keep everything organized.

Most of my programming experience was in Image Processing languages like IDL, but we did a fair amount of C++ and VB at the lab.

I have been working on my project for the past few days now and I have now just gotten to the point where it can export images to a folder.

I have, more or less, written an app for this. (available for free on my website) It ”chops” a big folder full with images into subfolders per dvd size. With relocate from apertures menu, you can use this workflow. At the moment I’m investigating how Aperture ’can’ export it’s changes so I can store them on disk too (I just talked with an apple representative (Peder Engrob, former Adobe guy) who ensured me that all changes made by aperture - not only metadata - is saved inside an XMP file (like, but not compatible with, ACR). I’ll release it on my/apple’s site When ready for a (first) release.
