Aperture 2.1 Includes Support for Edit Plugins

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Just shipped this morning, Aperture 2.1 includes support for Edit Plugins as well as a slew of new updates and features. Click here to see the full press release and documentation.

Apple has also posted a nice tutorial video outlining the use of their pre-packaged Dodge and Burn plugin. If you have already done the upgrade to 2.1 you can try out the plugin for yourself by selecting an image, and then choosing Images->Edit With->Dodge and Burn.

This plugin will allow you to make selective area adjustments to your images using a specialized dialog box. Once you click save, your image will be saved as a new TIFF file and stacked along with its original Master image.

I can’t tell you how excited I am to hear the news of a whole new array of plugin possibilities. At Aperture Plugged In we will continue to collect these new plugins as they appear so you can find them easily and stay current with updates and news.

In fact we are creating a new category for Edit plugin on this site. I am sure that in the weeks to come we will begin to see all sorts of Edit plugins that Aperture users have been dreaming of ever since Aperture 1.0 shipped over two years ago.

I for one have to admit, the first plugin I would have asked for was a Dodge and Burn tool. This feature is something that has been missing in Aperture and was one of the primary reasons I needed to round trip to Photoshop. Now it’s built right in!

Aperture 2.1 includes a number of other important additions and bug fixes. I am really impressed by the speed and frequency of these updates. It really seems like Apple is putting a great deal of resources into this product and that is always a good thing.

As soon as the new SDK ships I will be sure to update this site with information for developers interested in creating Edit Plugins. But for now, if you are trying to find out more info, please use the following email address: aperturedeveloper@apple.com, and be sure to join the Aperture Dev Mailing list here: Aperture Dev List

Upgrading Wordpress

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

UPDATE: Thanks to my “Rent-A-Coder” out in Vietnam, the Plugins page is now back up and running. Yay!

We are in the process of upgrading the engine that drives this website to Wordpress 2.3.3. I have made nearly all the upgrades and everything seems to be back online except the Plugins page. I hope to have this page back up and running as soon as possible, so please be patient.

If you are here searching for a plugin and you need that page back, you could also use the search bar located in the sidebar.

I am sorry for this inconvenience and things should be back to normal by the end of the week.

-regards,
Micah

Monday, February 25th, 2008

ApertureToPictage v1.0Micah Walter of Aperture Plugged In has released ApertureToPictage version 1.0. The update will allow wedding and event photographers to upload their photos to Pictage in a fast and easy manner. The new version includes major code rewrites and allows background export if you’re on Aperture 1.5.x (now standard in Aperture 2.0) and great time-saving features including the ability to create a new Pictage event from within Aperture. Here’s a quick rundown of all the great new features:

  1. Upload speeds are now up to three times as fast as they were with the beta version.
  2. There is now a really cool drag and drop user interface that allows you to edit and re-sort your Pictage categories.
  3. The plugin now allows for queueing of jobs so you can rack up a number of batches and let it run over night.
  4. You can also resume an upload if your computer crashes, or if you loose your internet connection. It just picks up where you left off.
  5. Additionally you can also choose to save your exported files to disk for other purposes.

The update is provided free of charge to all Pictage Pro members. You can download the plugin through this link, but you must be logged into Pictage. The plugin is compatible with the new Aperture 2.0.

DNGExport Updated

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

I have made a couple of minor updates to the DNGExport plugin that I released earlier this morning. This newer version fixes a problem having to do with the Embed Original RAW Image option. I have also added the initial implementation for the progress bar, however it is pretty rudimentary.
